Chess Tournament:

CHENNAI, INDIA – India's 17-year-old grandmaster D. Gukesh has demonstrated outstanding skill and determination in the game of chess. It carved its name into history. Gukesh won the Chess Candidates Tournament and became the youngest player to qualify for the World Championship. In doing so, he broke a 40-year record previously held by the legendary Garry Kasparov.

In the final round, Gukesh secured a decisive draw against American chess stars Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana. With an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, Gukesh proved his prowess on the boards, scoring 9 out of 14 points.

The Candidates Chess Tournament serves as a platform to determine the candidates who will compete for the coveted World Championship title. Gukesh's victory gave him the opportunity to face China's reigning world champion Ding Liren later that year.

Due to his outstanding performance, Gukesh will be awarded with his prize money of 88,500 euros, or approximately 78.5 million rupees. This victory brought the young prodigy not only an award, but also a large financial reward.

Gukesh's historic victory follows in the footsteps of another Indian chess master, Viswanathan Anand, who became the first Indian to win this prestigious tournament. Anand, himself a five-time world champion, congratulated Gukesh on his great achievement.

The Indian chess community is full of excitement and pride as we celebrate Gukesh's monumental achievement. Gukesh has made a name for himself in the international chess scene with his talent and determination and is poised to carry on the legacy of one of the greats of Indian chess.
